Military Equipment and Technologies Research Agency

Military Equipment and Technologies Research Agency was set up by the "Order of Minister of Defence No. M1 / 07.01.1998 concerning the reorganization of some scientific research institutions from Ministry of National Defence and the setting up of METRA". METRA history stretches since 1968 the institution having different names:

• Technical Institute for Research and Design of the Army (TIRDA) was founded on 1st of April 1968. This institute’s job was to perform research activities and documentation for achieving new technique (signals, armoured vehicles, artillery, engineers, technology for command and control);
• Institute for Research and Technological Engineering of the Army (IRTEA) since 20th of February 1979;
• Institute for Scientific Research and Technological Engineering of the Army (ISRTEA) since 1988;
• Institute for Research & Development of the Army (IRDA) since 1st of July 1991;
• Military Equipment and Technologies Research Agency (METRA) since 15th of April 1998.
