METRA `s AREAS OF COMPETENCE
Military Equipment and Technologies Research Agency
The scientific research centers are organized into sections with distinct profile on scientific research areas.
The METRA`s scientific research departments comprise multidisciplinary research team working, temporarily set up for running projects, coordinated by project managers. The project managers as well as the work teams are validated by the scientific councils of the centers. The areas of expertise and specialization are provided by organizing the centers into sections and laboratories. The general managers, scientific deputies, heads of departments and laboratories are recognized and respected leaders of the research staff.
The main METRA areas of competence within research and development and testing-evaluation are:
- development of concept studies for major weapons systems and military equipment, used to substantiate their purchasing decisions;
- technical specifications development (update), concerning the endowment included in the Ministry of National Defense Procurement Plan;
- elaboration of studies and technical documentation for the development or maintenance of the existing military technique;
- development of physical equipment and software for encrypting voice and data transmission;
- security systems projects in order to secure units and military objectives;
- fulfilling measurements and studies in order to determine the compatibility and electromagnetic radiation in the range of 10 KHz to 40 GHz;
- developing technical and design systems to establish the military equipment procurement;
- elaboration of the Test and evaluation plans as well as issuing test rapports of the military products acceptance;
- technical testing and issuance of operating rapports for the weapon systems and military equipment which is out of the use;
- elaboration of the implementation papers and the participation to the NATO interoperability standards;
- framing the impact studies and monitoring the status of NBC, equipment design and implementation of testing the degree of environment infestation;
- design of individual and collective means of ballistic protection, used within the operations theatres;
- emergency interventions in case of nuclear, chemical, radiological and environmental emissions, other than attack;
- measurement of electromagnetic radiation as well as issuing analysis reports for the MoD staff;
- execution of ground and in flight acceptance tests to the aeronautical products which are going to enter the MoD endowment;
- updating operation rates of aircrafts based on data from the intensive exploitation of the aircraft or in flight tests;
- research and testing ground and in flight for certification or approval of aircraft, aircraft armament configurations, onboard equipment and systems, armaments and munitions, aviation;
- mechanical tests - specific climate optical and electronic devices used on combat equipment.
