METRA basic mission is to perform fundamental oriented, applied and technological developing scientific research in order to let the technical progress in the military field, to create new types of military technique with superior performances, as well as for modernizing existing ones.

The main METRA`s interest relied on the achievement of all activities required by the Ministry of National Defense beneficiary, among which the most dominant were the SMG applications and those of the forces categories.
